1/6/05 – included Amy Weber inviting Kurt Angle to her private dressing room; when he eventually showed up and thought Amy was in the shower, Kurt stripped down to his briefs before realizing it was Joy Giovanni; Kurt chased Joy into the hall in an attempt to apologize, only for himself to be chased into the ring by the Big Show, with Show punching a steel chair into Angle’s face; moments later it was revealed the entire scenario was a setup by Amy and JBL, who had put Amy’s name on Joy’s dressing room door:
WWE Smackdown! Tag Team Champion Rey Mysterio Jr. pinned Eddie Guerrero at 17:00 by rolling through on an inside cradle attempt moments after Rey convinced the referee that Eddie had hit him with the tag title belt

Doug Basham (w/ Danny Basham) pinned WWE Smackdown! Tag Team Champion Rob Van Dam; it is believed that during the bout, RVD sustained a knee injury that would lead him to dropping the belts the next week
The Undertaker defeated John Heidenreich & Paul Heyman in a handicap match by pinning Heyman with the tombstone after Heidenreich tagged out and escaped through the crowd; after the bout, Taker rolled Heyman into a casket located at ringside; had Taker lost the match, Heidenreich would have been able to choose a different stipulation for their casket match at the Royal Rumble

1/13/05 – included an opening segment in which Kurt Angle apologized to Joy Giovanni and the Big Show for his actions the previous week; featured a backstage segment in which the Big Show confronted JBL on what took place last week, which eventually led to a catfight between Amy Weber and Joy Giovanni, with Teddy Long then making a match between the two women; included JBL being presented with The Man of the Year award by the Florida Agricultural Group, which was eventually interrupted by Kurt Angle who came out and accused JBL of kidnapping Joy Giovanni, adding fuel to rumors brought up earlier in the broadcast; moments later, Angle opened up the trunk to JBL’s limo to find Joy bound and gagged; after Joy was helped backstage, the Big Show came out, laid out JBL’s cabinet, finishing by repeatedly hitting Orlando Jordan with a steel chair as JBL and Amy Weber watched on from the crowd; as the show came to a close, it was revealed that Joy’s kidnapping was actually all Kurt Angle’s doing:
Doug & Danny Basham defeated WWE Smackdown! Tag Team Champions Rob Van Dam & Rey Mysterio Jr., Eddie Guerrero & Booker T, and Mark Jindrak & Luther Reigns in an elimination match to win the titles at 19:02; Doug Basham pinned Jindrak at 5:19 after Mysterio hit the 619 behind the referee’s back and Guerrero dragged Basham on top of Jindrak; Mysterio pinned Guerrero with a springboard West Coast Pop at 13:11; after the elimination, Doug slammed the steel ring steps against RVD’s already injured knee, with RVD being taken backstage on a stretcher at the 17-minute mark; Danny pinned Mysterio with a double choke sit-down powerbomb after switching places with Doug; after the bout, John Bradshaw Layfield, Orlando Jordan, and Amy Weber came out to celebrate the victory

2/3/05 – featured WWE US Champion John Cena opening the show by cutting a performance on his being controversial as well as his performance in the Royal Rumble; moments later, Smackdown! GM Teddy Long came out and announced that an 8-man tournament would be held to determine the #1 contender to the Smackdown! World Title at WrestleMania, and if Batista decided to jump to Smackdown!, the match at WrestleMania would be a triple threat bout; upon the announcement, JBL came to the ring with Orlando Jordan and Amy Weber to complain about his upcoming match with the Big Show as well as his WrestleMania opponent, demanding that Long call off the tournament; after Long mentioned that Orlando would meet Cena in the opening round the following week, Cena fought off Orlando, threw him out of the ring, and hit the FU on JBL; included the announcement of the first batch of WWE Hall of Fame 2005 inductees – Paul Orndorff, the Iron Sheik, Nikolai Volkoff, Bob Orton Jr., and Jimmy Hart; featured a Triple H & Ric Flair / Braveheart ad promoting WrestleMania XXI in Hollywood; included Carlito Caribbean Cool telling GM Teddy Long that he had to be in Stamford, CT the following week to defend his job and his decisions against the WWE Board of Directors:
Kurt Angle Invitational: Kurt Angle defeated Nunzio (sub. for the local wrestler) at 2:29 via submission with the ankle lock, pulling Nunzio off the ropes, after hitting the Olympic Slam; prior to the bout, Angle cut a promo on attacking Shawn Michaels at the Royal Rumble, making him bleed, and making him tap; moments later, Nunzio came out and demanded a match to redeem himself for letting Angle steal his number in the Royal Rumble match
Rey Mysterio Jr. pinned Mark Jindrak at 5:06 with a roll up after a head scissors sent Jindrak head-first into the top turnbuckle

#1 Contender Tournament Quarter Finals: Booker T pinned Eddie Guerrero at 19:55 by reversing a suplex attempt into a roll up and grabbing the tights for leverage

2/10/05 – Akebono, former sumo champion, was in attendance for the event; featured a ‘Basic Instinct’-themed WrestleMania XXI commercial featuring Stacy Keibler, Chris Jericho, Chris Benoit, Christian, the Fabulous Moolah, and Mae Young; included a seemingly-tranquilized JBL cutting a promo on an inflatable dinasaur that he brought ringside; after taking off his belt and his pants, revealing pink boxers underneath, the Big Show came to the ring; moments later, JBL attacked Show and hit the Clothesline from Hell, showing that he was not tranquilized as thought; the Bashams and Orlando Jordon soon came to the ring but all three received chokeslams from Show after JBL was knocked to the floor; during the commercial break, Show invited Akebono into the ring where the two men shook hands:

Luther Reigns & Mark Jindrak fought WWE Smackdown! Tag Team Champions Doug & Danny Basham to a no contest at around the 2:40 mark when the Undertaker’s gong sounded, the lights went out, and when they came back on the Bashams were no longer in the ring but the Undertaker was; moments later, Taker assaulted Jindrak in the ring while Reigns watched on from the floor; while assaulting Jindrak, Taker kept his eyes on Reigns, implying that they had unfinished business stemming from the previous week’s show

2/24/05 – included exclusive footage from No Way Out explaining how JBL escaped the cage to defeat the Big Show; featured JBL’s Celebration of Excellence in which he was recognized for being the longest reigning WWE World Champion in 10 years; eventually, the Big Show came out and wrecked the party until he was beaten down by JBL, Orlando Jordan, and the Bashams; moments later, John Cena made the save, with Teddy Long coming out and ordering a tag team match for the main event pitting Cena & Show vs. JBL & Orlando; included an in-ring segment with Teddy Long and Carlito Caribbean Cool in which Linda McMahon appeared on the big screen and said Long would remain Smackdown! GM by order of the WWE Board of Directors; moments later, Long told Carlito to show up early to work next week:

WWE Cruiserweight Champion Chavo Guerrero Jr. pinned Sho Funaki with the Gory Bomb at 3:21; after the bout, Paul London cleared Guerrero from the ring with a dropsault
The Undertaker defeated Luther Reigns & Mark Jindrak in a handicap match at 1:21 when Jindrak submitted to a triangle choke as he attempted a cover; Jindrak worked the whole match himself after Reigns first refused to tag in and then was knocked off the apron by Taker; after the bout, Jindrak and Reigns argued until they eventually came to blows, fighting in and around ringside until referees separated the two

3/10/05 – included WWE World Champion John Bradshaw Layfield, WWE US Champion Orlando Jordan, & the Bashams – surrounded by security guards, two of which were Sunjay Dutt & CW Anderson – conducted an in-ring segment in which JBL took John Cena’s spinner US title belt and used explosives to blow it up, then gave the previous version of the belt to Jordan; featured Teddy Long forcing Carlito Caribbean Cool to seek out the Undertaker and get his reaction to Randy Orton’s challenge for a match at WrestleMania; included John Cena coming out with a steel pipe and demanding to face JBL’s entire cabinet; moments later, Teddy Long came out and said that he couldn’t let Cena jeopardize the main event of WrestleMania but could give him a title rematch against Orlando Jordan later in the night; since Long wouldn’t help him, Cena dropped him with the FU; following the commercial break, it was announced Cena had been ejected from the building; featured Josh Matthews conducting a backstage interview with the Big Show & Joy Giovanni in which Show formally accepted Akebono’s challenge to face him in a sumo match at WrestleMania; included a video recap of Christy Hemme’s Playboy photo shoot; featured an in-ring segment in which Carlito asked the Undertaker to come out and respond to Randy Orton’s challenge, with Taker appearing, accepting the challenge, and hitting the tombstone on Carlito:

3/17/05 – featured the contract signing for Randy Orton vs. the Undertaker at WrestleMania in which Orton eventually slapped Taker in the face, resulting in Taker messing with the lights, big screen, and stage pyro to scare Orton; included Carlito working at one of the concession stands, with him spraying a kid with ketchup when the kid asked for change, then spitting his hot dog at another customer before going back to read his copy of USA Today; featured an in-ring promo by the Big Show regarding facing Akebono at WrestleMania:
Kurt Angle defeated Marty Jannetty at 17:56 via submission with the ankle lock into the heel hook after Jannetty failed an attempt at the Rocker Dropper
Booker T pinned Luther Reigns at 4:02 with the scissors kick; John Heidenreich did guest commentary for the bout but didn’t say a word during the match; after the contest, Heidenreich stood on the commentary table and read a poem, thanking Booker for the chair shot that helped him “see the light”; Booker’s wife was featured at ringside during the match

3/31/05 – included Jerry Lawler doing guest commentary for Tazz, whose father had passed away; featured Bob Orton Jr. coming out and asking the Undertaker to have mercy on his son at WrestleMania; after Taker refused, Randy Orton came out from behind as his dad distracted Taker, allowing Randy to drop Taker with the RKO (Bob Orton Jr.’s first appearance back after an absence of nearly 18 years); hip hop artist Baby Bash was in attendance; included Kurt Angle assaulting Josh Matthews backstage during an interview segment in which Matthews asked Angle what his strategy would be against Shawn Michaels, with Angle then dragging him out to the ring, referring to him as Shawn Michaels, dropping him with the Olympic Slam, and applying the ankle lock; moments later, Angle cut a promo on Michaels before a Kurt Angle video package ran on the big screen; featured the official weigh in for the Big Show / Akebono sumo match at WrestleMania, with Show weighing in at 493lbs and Akebono at 504lbs; moments later, Akebono requested to have a WWE wrestling match out of respect to Show:

Tag Team Champion Eddie Guerrero with a roll up at 3:54 when Doug backdropped an interfering Rey Mysterio Jr. on the floor, causing Mysterio to accidentally kick Guerrero in the head; after the bout, Guerrero argued with Mysterio over the loss but the two men left ringside together
Paul London defeated Billy Kidman, WWE Cruiserweight Champion Chavo Guerrero Jr., Akio, Spike Dudley, Scotty 2 Hotty, Sho Funaki, and Nunzio in a battle royal to win the title at 6:46; order of elimination: Chavo was eliminated by everyone else at the 9-second mark; Funaki by Nunzio when momentum sent Funaki over the top as he had a waistlock applied at 1:05; Nunzio by Kidman at 1:51; Spike by Scotty via a superkick after the Worm at 3:11; Scotty by Akio via a jumping kick off the middle turnbuckle as Scotty was on the ring apron at 4:09; Akio by Kidman when London sent Kidman into him with a dropkick as Akio was on the ring apron at 6:31; Kidman by London by pulling him out over the top by the head by his boots as London hung outside the ring by the top rope
Booker T pinned Luther Reigns at 4:43 with the scissors kick
Doug Basham (w/ Danny Basham) pinned WWE Smackdown! Tag Team Champion Rey Mysterio Jr. (w/ WWE Smackdown! Tag Team Champion Eddie Guerrero) at 2:35 after Guerrero ran in the ring to knock Danny off the apron and inadvertantly caused Mysterio to crotch himself on the top turnbuckle and fall to the mat; after the bout, Mysterio argued with Eddie over the finish but the two men eventually hugged
Akebono pinned an unknown at the 58-second mark after catching him coming off the top and throwing him into the corner, then covering him in the traditional sumo stance; the Big Show sat at the commentary table for the duration of the match and, afterwards, gave his WrestleMania opponent a standing ovation
John Cena fought Carlito Caribbean Cool to a no contest at around the 3-minute mark when John Bradshaw Layfield came to the ring with a number of police officers, who then arrested Cena for vandalizing JBL’s limousine; after Cena was handcuffed, JBL assaulted him before being sent away by the officers (Carlito’s return match from injury)

4/7/05 – included an in-ring promo by John Bradshaw Layfield regarding his title loss to John Cena at WrestleMania, with JBL stating he wanted the world title back; moments later, Eddie Guerrero came out, followed soon after by Booker T, the Big Show, Rey Mysterio Jr., and Kurt Angle, with each man stating he was deserving of the title as well; Smackdown! GM Teddy Long then came out to the ring and informed JBL that there was no rematch clause in the contract he signed to face Cena at the pay-per-view and then stated that the 5 would compete to see which would be the #1 contender; several members of the San Diego Chargers were in attendance; featured a backstage confrontation between the Big Show and Luther Reigns after Show caught Reigns making fun of his sumo match loss to Akebono at WrestleMania; included an in-ring promo by the new WWE World Champion John Cena in which he thanked the fans for their support, went into the crowd, and said he would defend the championship against anyone:

Torrie Wilson won a bikini contest also involving Jackie Gayda, Dawn Marie, Joy Giovanni, Michelle McCool, and Lauren Jones; the original line up was just Wilson, Dawn Marie, & Gayda but the other three came out before the decision was made; Michael Cole was the host for the contest

Tag Team Champion Rey Mysterio Jr. via disqualification at 17:16 when Eddie Guerrero interfered, pulling Mysterio off of JBL as he had him down in a cover, and assaulting Bradshaw moments after Bradshaw kicked him in the back of the head; Mysterio’s family was shown sitting at ringside during the contest; moments prior to the finish, Guerrero came ringside to counter the illegal interference of Jordan; after the bout, Guerrero and Mysterio were attacked by JBL, Orlando, and the Bashams until John Cena made the save and cleared the ring

4/14/05 – included the first ever segment of Carlito’s Cabana, with WWE Smackdown! Tag Team Champion Rey Mysterio Jr. as his guest; after downplaying ill feelings between himself and Eddie Guerrero, Mysterio was interrupted by Melina, Joey Mercury, & Johnny Nitro, with Mercury & Nitro eventually knocking Mysterio out with their elevated double team DDT (MNM’s TV debut); featured John Cena cutting an in-ring promo which was eventually interrupted by John Bradshaw Layfield, wearing the old WWE title belt, with JBL thinking he had intercepted Cena’s newly designed world title belt but in actuality had stolen a container of pig guts; moments later, Cena dumped the remainder of guts over JBL’s head before having his new title belt lowered from the rafters (the debut of Cena’s custom title belt); included WWE Cruiserweight Champion Paul London, with his head bandaged after sustaining 18 stitches to the head the previous week, being interrupted by Chavo Guerrero Jr.; moments later, Billy Kidman attacked London from behind in the ring but the champion eventually fought off Chavo, knocking him out of the ring, and hit the 450 splash on Kidman:
Booker T defeated WWE US Champion Orlando Jordan via disqualification when the Basham Brothers interfered; after the bout, the Big Show came out to make the save with Teddy Long soon following and ordering a handicap tag team match to take place immediately, pitting Booker & Show against Orlando & the Bashams
