Randy Orton fought Edge to a double count-out at 12:49 when Edge missed a spear on the floor and hit the barricade; late in the bout, Orton appeared to suffer a serious injury to his right arm while signaling for the RKO; after the contest, Edge was held back by referees as Orton went backstage
The Big Show defeated World Heavyweight Champion Jack Swagger via disqualification at 5:04 when Swagger hit Show with the title belt; after the match, Swagger hit Show a second time with the belt and then twice across the back with a steel chair; Show then struggled to his feet, dropped Swagger with the chokeslam, hit him over the back with the chair, and then dropped him with a chokeslam onto the chair; Show then waited for Swagger to get to his feet and knocked him out with a punch; moments lataer, several referees tended to Swagger in the ring and helped him backstage

WWE World Champion John Cena defeated Batista in an I Quit match at 20:32 when Batista submitted as Cena had him hoisted for a FU from the hood of a car at the entranceway; stipulations stated Cena would not get a rematch if he lost; within moments of the match starting, Batista took the mic from referee Mike Chioda and said he would give Cena a chance to say I Quit then and there and avoid a beating; Cena responded by punching Batista in the face; immediately after the match, Cena hit the FU to the entrance stage, sending Batista crashing through; moments later, as Cena celebrated and went to go backstage, Sheamus came from behind him and kicked him in the face as the show went off the air

Smackdown! – 9/17/10 – featured an opening in-ring segment of the Peep Show in which Christian attempted to introduce his guest only for Roberto Rodriguez to interrupt and introduce Alberto Del Rio himself, with Del Rio then coming out in a Bentley; moments later, Christian asked Del Rio who he really was after his introduction vignettes and recent actions, then subtly referring to Brock Lesnar, the Spirit Squad, the Boogeyman and asking if Del Rio was a flash in the pan like them; Del Rio responded by saying Christian would end up washing his dishes; Christian responded by challenging Del Rio to a match at Night of Champions, with Del Rio rejecting the offer because he liked Christian and didn’t want him to end up like the peasants in the crowd; Del Rio then said he would think about the match, with Christian then slapping him across the face and Del Rio leaving the ring; moments later, Del Rio walked up the entrance way before taking the mic and again saying his answer was no to the match; included a backstage segment with Teddy Long, Hornswoggle, and a nun in which Long said the nun would help teach Hornswoggle to talk; moments later, Hornswoggle got Long in trouble with the nun to the point where she was about to hit Long with a ruler; Hornswoggle then noted he was responsible, with Long stopping the nun from hitting Hornswoggle and Hornswoggle emptying erasers to cover her in chalk dust; the nun then screamed that Hornswoggle needed an excorcism; featured an ad promoting ‘Legendary,’ staring John Cena; included a backstage segment with WWE Women’s Champion Michelle McCool, WWE Women’s Champion Layla, and Kaval in which Kaval picked McCool’s name out to face WWE Divas Champion Melina at Night of Champions; moments later, McCool hugged Layla and ran off, with Layla and Kaval then realizing McCool rigged the random drawing by only putting her name in and not Layla’s; Layla then said she wouldn’t support McCool at Night of Champions; featured a closing in-ring promo by World Heavyweight Champion Kane in which he said his upcoming match with the Undertaker at Night of Champions would not end like their previous matches and that it would now end on Kane’s terms; moments later, Kane prepared to say Taker would rest in peace but Taker appeared with the two then brawling at ringside; Kane dominated the fight and eventually dropped Taker with a chokeslam and tombstone in the ring:

Kofi Kingston pinned Jack Swagger at 16:17 with the spin kick to the face; prior to the bout, Kingston cut an in-ring promo in which he said Vickie Guerrero was the only reason Dolph Ziggler had the WWE IC Title and said Ziggler could lose the title via disqualification or count-out in their match at Night of Champions; Kingston then said by taking the title, he would split up Dolph and Vickie; mid-way through the bout, there were brief dueling chants of “Let’s go, Swagger” and “Let’s go, Kofi”
WWE Women’s Champion Michelle McCool & WWE Women’s Champion Layla (w/ Kaval) defeated Kelly Kelly (w/ Naomi) & Rosa Mendes at 2:03 when Layla pinned Rosa with the Layout after McCool kicked Rosa in the back behind the referee’s back

World Heavyweight Champion Edge defeated Jack Swagger, Drew McIntyre, and Tyson Kidd in an impromptu over-the-top rope challenge at 1:07; prior to the bout, Edge cut an in-ring promo saying he didn’t want to wait for later in the show to face WWE World Champion Mike Mizanin and asked Miz to come out then and there; after he called Michael Cole a tool, Cole received an e-mail from the Raw GM that stated whoever could throw Edge over the top would earn the #40 spot in the Royal Rumble; after the contest, Edge took the mic and said he would smash the laptop just like he did several months earlier; as Edge confronted Cole on the floor, CM Punk, David Otunga, Husky Harris, Michael McGillicutty, and their new fifth member came out to the ring, with Punk cutting a promo saying the strong survive because they evolve; Punk then introduced the new member as Mason Ryan, with Ryan then only saying “faith;” Punk went on to insult John Cena and the “poor man’s Nexus” the Corre before saying he would win the Rumble; Wade Barrett, Ezekiel Jackson, Heath Slater, & Justin Gabriel then walked out, with Jackson eventually saying the Corre would make sure Punk was eliminated from the Rumble; Jackson and Ryan then faced off before Cole received another e-mail which stated Barrett would face Punk later in the show and the loser and his group would be out of the Rumble match; Cole then announced John Cena would be the guest referee (Royal Rumble 2011 Blu-ray)
