Raw is War – the last Raw to air on the USA Network until 2005; included an opening segment in which Stephanie McMahon cut an in-ring promo and asked Mick Foley to come out and cancel the Triple H / Kurt Angle match scheduled for Unforgiven; moments later, Kurt Angle appeared instead, said the match had to happen, and showed a video montage of the various problems between Stephanie and Triple H over the past several weeks; Triple H then came out and alluded to the fact that Angle might be gay since he said he just wanted to be Stephanie’s friend; Triple H then showed a clip put together by Dick Ebersol at NBC of Angle at the 96 Olympics, first a shot of Angle’s opponent’s head in Angle’s crotch, then a shot of Angle crying after winning the gold medal; as Triple H encouraged Angle to come out of the closet, Foley came out, replayed the clip of Angle crying, and ordered a match between Trish Stratus and T&A against Triple H, Angle, & Stephanie for later in the show; featured an in-ring promo by WWF World Champion the Rock in which he told the Undertaker that all he had to do was ask if Taker wanted a title shot; moments later, Taker came out and confronted the champion, with Foley following moments later and agreeing that the two could have a match if they wanted one; Chris Benoit appeared shortly thereafter and said that he was more deserving of getting a title shot later in the night; Kane then came out and argued he should get the title shot; Foley ordered the Rock to face Taker in a non-title match and Benoit to face Kane later in the show; after the announcement, Benoit and Kane began brawling on the floor until they were pulled apart by referees, with Benoit then coming back to hit Kane in the back with a steel chair; included Hugh Heffner commenting on Chyna’s feature in the upcoming issue of Playboy magazine; featured an in-ring segment with Steven William Regal in which he attempted to teach the American audience about dinner etiquette but was interrupted by Chris Jericho, with Jericho eventually dumping all of Regal’s plates and utensils to the floor before he was attacked from behind by X-Pac, weilding a pair of nunchucks (Regal’s surprise return after a nearly 2-year absence); included Naked Mideon at WWF New York; featured a promo by Foley on the stage in which he said the WWF Smackdown! Challenge was being ignored by George W. Bush and Al Gore; Foley then urged both candidates to appear on Smackdown!; during the segment, it was noted that the Smackdown Your Vote campaign had registered 80,000 new voters:
Bull Buchanon & the Goodfather (w/ Steven Richards & Val Venis) defeated the Dudley Boyz at 3:06 when Buchanon pinned Bubba Ray after Richards interfered and hit the Stevie Kick; after the match, all four members of the RTC attacked the Dudley Boyz until the Acolytes came out to help clear the ring
Kane defeated Chris Benoit via disqualification at 3:52 when Benoit twice hit his opponent with the ring bell and attacked the referee; after the bout, Benoit hit the diving headbutt on Kane, shoved the referee back down to the mat, and then left ringside as Kane sat up
Triple H, Kurt Angle, & Stephanie McMahon defeated Test, Albert, & Trish Stratus at 5:15 when Stephanie pinned Test after Triple H pushed Test off the top, shoved Trish from the apron to the floor, and hit the Pedigree on Test; after the bout, Triple H tackled Angle and knocked him out of the ring after seeing Angle enthusiastically hug Stephanie
Rikishi fought Chyna (sub. for an ill Eddie Guerrero) (w/ WWF IC Champion Eddie Guerrero) to a no contest when Guerrero interfered and sprayed mace in Rikishi’s face before the match began; prior to the entrances, Tazz came out, sent Lilian Garcia out of the ring, and took over the ring announcing duties; after Guerrero’s entrance, Rikishi attacked Guerrero on the floor, threw him into the ring steps, and threw him into the ring; moments later, Rikishi attacked Chyna to goad Eddie into the ring and hit the Bonzai Drop but Eddie wouldn’t make the save; Taz announced Rikishi as the winner but did so under his own judgment, not the referee’s; later in the show, it was announced Rikishi would face WWF IC Champion Eddie Guerrero at Unforgiven
WWF Tag Team Champions Edge & Christian defeated Too Cool at 4:01 when Edge pinned Grandmaster Sexay after hitting him with one of the title belts; during their ring entrances, Tazz announced Too Cool as “Two Fools” and said Edge & Christian were “from someplace in Canada”; Tazz harassed Lawler at ringside for the duration of the match but, because of the no tolerance clause which said they couldn’t be physical with one another until Unforgiven, Lawler was unable to retaliate with force; after the bout, Tazz was escorted backstage by several officials
