What do I remember about Fall Brawl 93? I remember it was the first WCW pay-per-view I ever ordered. I remembered the anticipation for the title bouts and Wargames. Looking back, it’s pretty obvious this show was put in place to push the new faces in and the old faces out. Eric Bischoff was months into his run as executive vice-president and it’s clear here that the goal is to establish new money-makers. Rude, the Nasty Boys, Regal. And to a lesser extent, Shockmaster, Harlem Heat, Scorpio & Bagwell, and Ice Train.

Fall Brawl 93 – Houston, TX – Astro Arena – September 19, 1993 (6,000; 3,500 paid)
Erik Watts defeated Bobby Eaton via submission with the STF
Pay-per-view bouts – featured Tony Schiavone & Jesse Ventura on commentary; included Eric Bischoff interviewing the Nasty Boys in the arena about their WCW Tag Team Title shot later in the show and their big surprise; featured Scott ? interviewing Davey Boy Smith about his participation in Wargames later in the show; included Bischoff interviewing in the arena the new WCW TV Champion Lord Steven Regal, with Sir William, about the way he won the belt; featured a video package detailing the 2-match series between Cactus Jack and Big Van Vader in April, Cactus’ injury, his “amnesia,” return at August’s Clash of the Champions, and the bounty that had been put on his head by Harley Race; included a Cactus Jack vignette in an alley in which he admitted his amnesia was fake but two people believed it – Vader & Race:
Lord Steven Regal (w/ Sir William) pinned WCW TV Champion Ricky Steamboat to win the title at 17:05 with a German suplex into a bridge after Sir William hit Steamboat in the had with his umbrella as the champion attempted to skin the cat
Charlie Norris pinned Big Sky with a boot to the face at 4:35
2 Cold Scorpio & Marcus Alexander Bagwell defeated Paul Orndorff & the Equalizer in an unadvertised match at 10:46 when Scorpio pinned the Equalizer with the 450 splash after Orndorff accidentally hit his partner; after the bout, Orndorff & the Equalizer laid out both their opponents
Ice Train pinned Shanghai Pierce (w/ Tex Slazenger) with a powerslam at 3:28; after the match, Train fought off both men
The Nasty Boys (w/ Missy Hyatt) defeated WCW Tag Team Champions Arn Anderson & Paul Roma to win the titles at 23:58 when Knobbs pinned Roma following Saggs’ elbowsmash off the top behind the back of referee Randy Anderson, moments after Knobbs sustained the spinebuster / swandive double team; after the match, Ventura interviewed the Nastys & Missy at ringside in which Missy said that was payback for what Ric Flair did to her and she and the Nastys said the Horsemen were dead (Missy’s surprise debut with the Nasty Boys)
Cactus Jack pinned Yoshi Kwan (w/ Harley Race) with the double arm DDT at 3:39; after the bout, Cactus suplexed Race into the ring, regained his bag, and issued a challenge to Vader for Hallween Havoc
Rick Rude pinned World Champion Ric Flair (w/ Fifi) to win the title at 30:49 after punching Flair with a pair of brass knuckles as he was caught in the champion’s figure-4; after Michael Buffer’s introductions, Rude grabbed the mic and said he would be leaving with Flair’s belt and his woman before revealing Fifi’s face was printed on the front of his tights; during the bout, Ventura’s mic was briefly cut by the female production manager after he made several sexist remarks in regards to women and specifically Fifi
Sting, Davey Boy Smith, WCW US Champion Dustin Rhodes, & the Shockmaster (w/ Road Warrior Animal) defeated WCW World Champion Big Van Vader (w/ Harley Race), Sid Vicious (w/ Col. Parker), & Harlem Heat in Wargames at 16:39 when Kole submitted to the Shockmaster’s bearhug
